You can even take a carriage ride through Florence, starting in Piazza Signoria and winding through the narrow streets of the city. Florence is the town which gave its own language to Italy and gave to Europe that unique great season of cultural, artistic and scientific development called Renaissance. Florence preserves some of the greatest works of art and most beautiful buildings in the world of the Renaissance period.
You will probably not want to miss the Uffizi gallery which houses numerous masterpieces, including the Birth of Venus by Botticelli, Michelangelo's Holy Family, and Titian's Venus of Urbino. One of the best spots in the city for a romantic walk are the green Boboli gardens. Located next to the Pitti Palace, the gardens were built by the Medici family in the 16th century. There are numerous pathways, renaissance fountains, and interesting statues. Since the gardens rise above the city, they also provide great views of Florence. The best romantic sunset in Florence can be enjoyed from Ponte Santa Trinita, one bridge over from Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge). Not as crowded as the Old Bridge, Ponte Santa Trinita offers great views over the river and spectacular views of the Old Bridge itself.
