Orvieto is an ancient Italian town, in the province of Umbria, about an hour north of Rome.
You may know it because of the fresh Orvieto Classico white wine, for which the region is famous.
It was an important Etruscan centre with the name of "Volsinii Veters".
In Roman times it was a prosperous centre for its production of ceramics.
It was also dominated by several invasions. In XI-XII century Orvieto became a free common with wonderful buildings like towers, palaces and noble houses.
Nowadays Orvieto changed little , with narrow streets, old palaces, and a magnificent Cathedral, completed in 1330.
The centre of the town is composed of squared medieval walls hiding a beautiful view of the valley.
The Duomo of Orvieto is one of the most significant examples of Gothic architecture in Italy, which is notably different from its European equivalent.
This is mainly because of the difference in the cultural heritage of the Italian peninsula as well as its unique and characteristic architecture.
There are a multitude of things to do and see in Orvieto.
At the heart of the Medieval quarter, there is an underground passage with caves and all manner of archaeological discoveries.
Orvieto is one of the most beautiful place to have an “unforgettable wedding”!
