The Italian Riviera, the beach is filled with international celebrities, Italian businessmen and the locals especially during summer. It is best to go to the beach in the late afternoon to be able to truly appreciate the beauty of Portofino. If activity is what you want, there are many sports to be enjoyed in Portofino. You can go wind surfing or sailing. Scuba divers will definitely want to go to the reefs, which is the heart of the Protected Marine Area of Portofino.

Wedding in Santa Margherita Ligure

Being small, Santa Margherita is easy to get around. There is a train station on the hill above the sea front with steps down to the main town. Hourly ferries take you to Portofino and Rapallo, or there is a truly beautiful bus ride along the coast road to Portofino. The Piazza Martiri della Liberta, and Piazza Vittorio Veneto are two seaside squares to sit in, either to watch the activities of the fishing boats, or to recover from a mornings exertions offered by the various watersports. There is sailing, waterskiing and canoeing to be enjoyed.

Liguria

Like so much of Italy, Liguria is a land of contrasts, home to Belle Epoque seaside resort towns in the style of Cannes and Monaco; dozens and dozens of sandy strands, rocky coves and pebbly beaches; some of its most secluded stretches of coast, where lush forests of lemon trees, herbs, flowers, terraced hillsides that produce an olive oil. Ezra  Pound, Lord Byron, Shelley and his wife Mary Wollstonecraft, Ernest Hemingway all loved this part of Europe.
