Wedding in Venice

Venice, the city of Doges, is built over 117 islets, separated by 150 canals and crossed by 149 bridges. The capital of Veneto region, Venice is the heart of a lagoon situated on the edge of the Adriatic Sea. Known as one of the most romantic cities of the world, Venice is also famous for its sumptuous art, architecture and history. Nearly everything about Venice is romantic, including its location, one of 117 islands within the Venetian lagoon on the northern end of the Adriatic sea.

Few lovers can forget a midnight gondola ride or a kiss on the Bridge of Sighs ! The historic centre made up of the sestieri - the six quarters of San Marco, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce, Cannaregio and Castello. The Grand Canal, Canalazzo, is the main thoroughfare, splitting the city in half. At the centre of it all is St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco). To get to know Venice just stroll around the romantic residential back streets or hop aboard a vaporetti. The canal water buses give good views of the magnificent Renaissance buildings. Best of all take the one you love aboard a gondola - a romantic cliché perhaps but still an unforgettable experience. A great time to visit is during the Carnival. What could be more romantic than a masked ball? During Carnival time, the city becomes filled with musicians and magicians, acrobats and clowns and theatrical performances, exhibitions and concerts compete along the canals, piazzas and palaces of the city. The gondolas that ply the canals are a great way to see the attractions, since many of the most beautiful places are built along the canals.
