The Villa Borghese Park of Rome occupies a vast area in the heart of the city and is one of the largest city parks in Europe. The Italian Government acquired the gardens from the Italian noble Borghese family in 1901 and opened the park to the public in July 1903.
What distinguishes Villa Borghese from other large parks such as Hyde Park or Central Park is the perfect combination between nature and historical Roman architecture . Suggestive places in the park are: the Garden of the Lake where it is possible to rent boats and admire the Temple dedicated to Aesculapius, the Meridiana and the Fountain of the Family of Satyr, the Secret Gardens, Piazza di Siena, the Borghese Casino of Vasanzio, in which the Galleria Borghese is based; the Fortezzuola now home to the Museo Canonica, the Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia, the Modern Art Gallery and the Parco dei Daini.
